Encouragement in the Ordinary at Home

Home, Everyday Encouragement

Hello, sweet friends.
If we’ve never met before, I’m so glad you’re here.

Truly, what a gift it is to share this moment together. My name is Gina Romero and I’m the author of the award-winning book Welcome Home: A Guide to Homemaking, From the Heart.

My heart has always been drawn to the beauty of home not just as a place where we live, but as a space where love grows, where our faith is practiced, and where God meets us in the ordinary.

I’m someone who believes that homemaking is more than clean counters and folded laundry. It is our ministry. It’s God’s work. It’s creating an atmosphere where peace can rest and where the people in it feel seen, safe, and deeply loved.

So whether you’re listening while washing dishes, folding clothes, or just taking a quiet moment for yourself. I want you to feel this: you are right where you’re meant to be.

Let me tell you a Story

There was a woman. No one famous, no spotlight on her life. She lived in a small home, the kind with original hardwood floors that creaked and sunlight that poured through the kitchen window every morning. Her days were simple and sometimes even repetitive.

She would wake up before the rest of her family, wrap her hands around a warm cup of coffee, and sit quietly at the kitchen table with her Bible open. Not because she had extra time but because she needed that time. It was where she found her strength.

Each day, she did the same things, laundry, meals, wiping counters, picking up after others. And if you looked closely, you might have thought, “gosh Is this all there is?”

But God saw something different.

Because every time she made a meal, she said a prayer over it.
Every time she folded clothes, she thanked God for the people who wore them.
Every time she opened her door to someone, family, a friend, or a neighbor, she welcomed them with a spirit of grace and Christian hospitality.

Her home wasn’t perfect. There were messes. There were rushed mornings and tired evenings. But there was something there. Something you could feel the moment you walked in.

Peace.

Not the kind that comes from having everything in order but the kind that comes from inviting God into everything.

One day, a friend came over unexpectedly. Life had been heavy for her with burdens she hadn’t shared with anyone. She sat at this woman’s kitchen table, tears welling up in her eyes, unsure of what she even needed.

And the homemaker didn’t have a perfect answer. She didn’t offer a grand solution.
She simply sat with her. She poured her a cup of tea. She listened. And they prayed.
And in that small, ordinary kitchen, something extraordinary happened.
She felt the peace that passes all understanding.

Because that home had been prepared, not just cleaned but prayed over. Filled with intention. Saturated with faithfulness.

That’s the thing about Christian homemaking

It’s not about impressing people. It’s about serving them. (Now we can certainly do so with beauty and flair, but we do it for God, not for show.)
It’s about creating a place where hearts can soften, where burdens can be laid down and where God’s presence feels near.

Sometimes we think ministry happens on stages, in big moments, or in front of lots of people.

But so often, it happens right at your kitchen table.
In the way you welcome your family home from their days.
In the way you speak kindness when you’re tired.
In the way you keep showing up, day after day, doing the unseen work.

God doesn’t overlook those moments.

Scripture reminds us that whatever we do, we do it unto Him. Even the smallest act, done in love, becomes something eternal.

So if today feels ordinary, if your work feels unnoticed, if your home feels less than perfect,
Let me gently remind you:
You are building something special.
Every prayer said in your home.
Every act of care.
Every moment of choosing patience, grace, and love.
It matters.

Your home can be a sanctuary.

Not because it looks perfect but because God is welcome there.

And maybe, just maybe, someone will walk through your door one day carrying something heavy.
And they’ll leave lighter.
Not because of anything grand you did.
But because you created a space where God could meet them.

That is the beauty of homemaking.

That is the calling.
And it is enough.
Your efforts are enough.
You are enough.

So today, as you go about your home, whatever that looks like, invite Him in.
Because when God is present, even the simplest home becomes blessed and beautiful.

God bless you.
